What are flexible prostheses?
A flexible denture is a gum-supported removable denture that does not traumatize residual teeth like traditional dentures made with metal clasps. The clasps are invisible; they are made of a chameleon-like, semi-transparent material that lets the color of the gums show through. They have no palate!
In what cases can flexible prosthesis be used?
- As a permanent removable partial denture as an alternative to skeletonized dentures with unsightly metal clasps;
- As removable prostheses when traditional resin ones often break or are very heavy and bulky;
- In patients with metal allergies. Nylon prostheses are metal free;
- As a provisional prosthesis while waiting for the fixed one on natural teeth or on implants while waiting for the osseointegration period.

Questions & Answers
What materials are flexible prostheses made of?
- Instead of the classic acrylic resin, which is particularly rigid, the nylon denture base is fabricated using biocompatible thermoplastic material similar, not to say identical, to the color of the gingiva.
- Such material makes the prosthesis hypoallergenic, flexible and unbreakable.
- The teeth that go on the denture can be made of composite or resin.
Natural teeth are not touched!
The flexible prosthesis is clipped onto the natural teeth without filing and encapsulation. Therefore, no dental caps and attachments are provided. The teeth are left as they are.
Features and benefits
- Flexible nylon palate-less mobile dentures are specially designed to overcome problems such as bulkiness in the oral cavity, fragility, and unsatisfactory aesthetics(n.b. flexible dentures cannot be made when all teeth are missing).
