IMPLANTS
Implant treatment for bone deficiencies

For bone grafting, the areas where implants will be placed must be examined and a detailed clinical examination must be performed. If a problem related to oral-dental health or gum health is determined during the clinical examination, there are steps that must be taken before performing an implant treatment. A radiographic examination is necessary to evaluate the height, thickness, and quality of the bone. Patients with low or borderline bone density must also undergo a dental tomography to eliminate errors, and the treatment is then planned based on the results.

Is a panoramic X-ray sufficient?

Panoramic X-rays provide two-dimensional information. They do not provide clear measurement results for patients with low or borderline bone density. This is why planning an implant treatment requires a three-dimensional dental tomography. A tomography provides detailed images of the bone and soft tissues, which are not visible on standard X-rays.

Questions & Answers

Can I receive implant treatment even if I have osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis in the body is completely different from osteoporosis in the mouth. People with osteoporosis in the body may not have dental osteoporosis, and people with dental osteoporosis may not have it in the body. For this reason, it is necessary to undergo a detailed dental examination before any implant treatment.

How is bone created if the amount of bone in the upper jaw is too low?

There may be extreme bone loss in the upper jaw, or the cavities in the upper jaw, called sinuses, may be sagging. In this case, a sinus lift is performed to increase the amount of bone. At the same time, a bone graft is applied to increase the quantity and volume of the bone. It may be necessary to wait 3-5 months for the bone volume to increase and fuse after a bone powder graft application before a successful implant treatment can be performed.

How is bone created if the amount of bone in the lower jaw is too low?

There may be extreme bone loss in the lower jaw. The most common type of bone deficiency is the proximity of the nerves passing through the lower jaw. In cases with insufficient bone quantity, a bone powder graft treatment can be applied to increase the quantity and volume of the bone. Three months after the bone creation, a successful implant treatment can be performed.

What is a bone graft application?

These applications are performed to increase the thickness or height of the bone before an implant treatment. During these treatments, the patient’s own bone or a specially manufactured bone powder graft can be used. It may be necessary to wait 3-5 months for the bone volume to increase and fuse after a bone powder graft application before undergoing an implant treatment. Once the bone formation is complete, the implant can be successfully placed.
