What is an e-max crown?
This all-ceramic crown has an attractive, translucent color and is crafted for enhanced strength and durability. Made from a single block of lithium disilicate ceramic (a premium material), the E-Max crown is selected for its qualities of durability, toughness, and opacity. These characteristics are what make this crown highly regarded.
The unique structure is indicated for single posterior or anterior crowns and is strong enough for 3-unit anterior bridges (including premolars). E-Max restorations can be cemented with resin-modified glass ionomer cements with low expansion or can also be bonded with resin cements.
The E-Max crown is also considered a breakthrough in dental crown technology. What you get is a glass-ceramic crown with a delicate appearance, yet it is strong and durable. The E-Max crown is available in layered or monolithic restorations.

What are the cons of emax crowns?
One of the advantages of Emax is that they have been used for years, so we are familiar with their durability. It has been shown that Emax crowns can fracture in 10-15 years, but this is a matter of how they are treated. Through trial and error, labs have learned how to prevent fractures, but as mentioned before, this may be a matter of the pressure exerted on the crown through grinding or a heavy bite.
