What is tartar removal?

Tartar removal is also known as scaling. Tartar is the primary cause of gum disease, bleeding gums, and bad breath. During a standard tartar cleaning, the dentist removes the tartar and plaque that have accumulated on the tooth surface. Afterward, the teeth are polished with a special paste to remove any stains. The dentist also advises you on how to brush your teeth and use dental floss, providing essential oral hygiene education.

Is there any pain during dental tartar removal?

Tartar removal is not a painful procedure. We perform the treatment even on patients with a severe fear of dentists, as it is easily tolerable and requires only a short amount of time.

How can tartar formation be prevented?

Once tartar has formed, it can only be cleaned by a dentist. If you brush your teeth correctly twice a day and floss regularly, you can prevent or delay the formation of tartar.

Do gums bleed during the procedure?

Patients with edema and gum inflammation may experience some bleeding. However, this is nothing to fear. It will not continue after the cleaning process. One week after the tartar removal, the gums will regain their healthy pink color.

How long does it take to remove tartar?

Tartar removal takes approximately 30 minutes. Patients with excessive tartar may need to return for a second session.

How often should tartar be cleaned?

Tartar is the main cause of gum disease. Along with this, it can also lead to bleeding gums, bad breath, tooth discoloration, and brown stains. It is recommended to visit the dentist every 6 months and have tartar removed if necessary.

Your first visit

Many people who visit Dental Experts Albania have questions about aesthetic issues, including stained and discolored teeth. During your first visit, you will receive a complete set of X-rays, a thorough examination, cleaning, and time to speak with your dentist (expect to spend about 90 minutes in our office).
We will review your examination, talk about how you would like to improve the appearance of your teeth, and discuss a treatment plan.
