Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are a type of fixed orthodontic treatment involving brackets and wires attached to the back of the teeth. They are an excellent option for patients who do not want others to know they are wearing braces. Whether you are a teenager concerned about your peers’ opinions or an adult whose appearance is vital in the workplace, lingual braces are the best choice for achieving a beautiful smile.

The fitting process for lingual braces

Lingual braces, like traditional braces, gently move teeth into the correct position using continuous pressure. The duration of the treatment can range from 18 to 36 months, depending on the severity of the individual’s crowded teeth or their bite.

Questions & Answers

Is it difficult to fit lingual braces?

Most people assume that fitting orthodontic appliances to the back of the teeth is a very difficult task, but specialized orthodontists are trained to install lingual orthodontics and other types of braces using the most modern and effective methods. Lingual braces can be fitted in just two sessions.

Do lingual braces affect your lifestyle?

Individuals considering lingual braces should speak with their dentist about lifestyle changes after getting braces. Many people need time to adjust to speaking and eating while wearing lingual appliances.

Eating: Although patients can eat normally after lingual braces are adjusted, they should avoid foods such as hard candies, chewing gum, and carbonated drinks that can damage the appliance.

Speech: Lingual braces can cause temporary speech issues such as a slight lisp or difficulty pronouncing certain words. However, most people adapt quickly to these appliances and their speech issues resolve.

Caring for lingual braces

As with any other appliance, proper oral hygiene is necessary to prevent gingivitis and tooth decay. Oral hygiene practices include:

Brushing your teeth twice a day for at least 2 minutes
Using a round-bristled toothbrush to clean teeth along the gum line
Daily use of dental floss or interproximal brushes to remove plaque and food debris between teeth. Using an oral irrigator (water flosser) to remove food debris around the orthodontic brackets.
Rinsing with fluoride to strengthen the teeth.

Your first visit

Many people who visit Dental Experts Albania have questions about aesthetic issues, including stained and discolored teeth. During your first visit, you will receive a complete set of X-rays, a thorough examination, cleaning, and time to speak with your dentist (expect to spend about 90 minutes in our office).
We will review your examination, talk about how you would like to improve the appearance of your teeth, and discuss a treatment plan.

First of all: Prevention

We believe that the best care is prevention; preventing is undoubtedly better than curing. When prevention is no longer possible, we try to address issues at the earliest stage.
